City of Lights
Brisbane is a city of lights meant to entice you outdoors in the dark evenings. And why not? With its subtropical climate, you rarely need a sweater and only in the winter will you need to wear a jacket. I would say that 3/4 of the year you can feel comfortable carrying on into the evening in the same clothes that you wore during the day, without worrying about it being chilly.
Southbank, CBD, and BRISBANE in lights
The area of Southbank is a favorite of locals and tourists (see previous post). A recent (late 2015) art installation (BRISBANE) has proved to a popular photo stop. The constantly changing colors and designs provide a wonderful foreground to the city lights across the river. The distance is not great and we have often crossed the Victoria Bridge from the city over to Southbank or vice versa.
There is no other time of year in which Brisbanites display their love for lights and color than Christmas time.

On The River at Night
We have just finished a great meal out at Navala (Brazilian BBQ). It is located in the group of restaurants right next to the Riverside CityCat Ferry Station. Ed and Art visit while we wait for the ferry and I snap pictures of the lights on Story Bridge and the surrounding buildings and courtyards.

Eagle Street/Riverside is vibrant and attractive during the day, but at night, it shines!
Ferries run continuously during the day, but even waiting a little longer at night is not unpleasant in the warm air. Plus, there are no long queues to deal with.

Taking the ferry in the evening provides lots of opportunities to capture the lights along the river.

River Fire
Almost any excuse for fireworks will do, and we have enjoyed fireworks on the river at Christmas time, but the highlight of fireworks displays is River Fire. There are any number of good locations along the river to view the fireworks. The fireworks at River Fire were amazing and I couldn’t stop snapping pictures, so I must admit that I saw most of it through a lens. I edited later down to a few. Aren’t the reflections on the water fantastic?
Not all the lights are on the water. One of our favorite restaurants, The Reef, is at the Gasworks. Every Friday and Saturday night they do a light show. Families gather in the park and enjoy the warm evening air and the changing colors of the lights.
Good Night.
